Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, Wellington, New zealand - 31 January 2009

Karori is an inland reserve that has been fenced off to remove introduced predators and native birds have been reintroduced. We went up there on the bus on Saturday for a 2 hour walking tour. There was some really rare stuff and we saw a lot of the native birds. In addition, the Tuatara (second below) is very rare and is prehistoric. It actually has its own order as there is nothing else like it alive today. Its young are born with 3 eyes, one in the middle of their head still hanging on from early evolution. Really good afternoon out.
